A spiritual life is one that is led without fear, stress, problems, or melodrama. Life has no reason for tension and stress. So many things are insignificant or no use to worry about, yet we spend our time and energy in this tension.
We resist because of willpower. We use our will to resist events from passing through us. Events by themselves cannot cause us tension or stress. It is when we resist that does.
We resist one of two things: that which has happened, or that which hasn’t happened yet.
For example, let's say you broke up with your significant other. There is no point in resisting. The event has already occurred, and there is nothing that can be done to reverse what has already happened. Since the event is in the past, you are actually struggling with yourself and ego - not the event.
The other side is resisting that which hasn’t happened. There are billions of things that can happen, if we spent all our energy resisting every likely scenario, we’d be burnt out. Your lover could hook up with others, the reality is you don’t know nor do you have control over any of that. They also might not, but you spend all your energy worrying about if they do. Quite frankly, it doesn’t matter if they do or don't. You resist fruitlessly.
The human predicament is when events happen, we continue to hold their energy within us. It gets stuck in our psyche and torments us. We are unable to experience new energies because we haven’t even let the past energies pass through. We allow the toxicity and pain to fester until it's unbearable.
It's not life’s events that are causing problems or stress. It is your resistance to life’s events that are causing problems and stress. Your perception of these events. Your preconceived notions of how things should be, of how events should unfold. With these preconceived notions, you assert your resistance on things.
Things in life just are. The world isn't comfortable or uncomfortable. It just exists. We attempt to personify the world and give it attributes it doesn't truly have. That's just our ego trying to rationalize how life should be lived.
Resistance causes fear, and with fear, causes darkness. We must approach that which we think creates the darkness with vulnerability to truly let the light in. The light isn't so far away from the darkness after all.
Let go of these impressions and the stress they create. Approach and accept the events that come as they are. We can deal with things much better after we’ve accepted them.
Only once you accept that which has happened can you continue forward. Acceptance is not about inaction, it's about peace. Peace in your heart and soul. After you achieve peace, you are able to clearly see what must be done next.
